The Coast Starlight travels through some of the most dramatic and most beautiful scenery in the United States during its nearly 1,400-mile journey between Seattle and Los Angeles. The train passes through three states: Washington, Oregon, and California, past ocean beaches, through mountain passes, through verdant countrysides and small towns. There is a variety of things to see and enjoy. This page will automatically go to the "Introduction" page shortly. Amtrak's Coast Starlight!
It's a spectacular ride with a lot to see: sunny Southern California where movie stars roam, the 111-mile ride right along the Pacific Ocean, the climb over Santa Marguerite Pass, passing through the fertile Salinas Valley--known as the nation's salad bowl and as the setting for many of Steinbeck's novels. You will glide along the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay and be able to see that famous city's skyline and Bay Bridge, and Golden Gate off in the distance. There is Mount Shasta as well as other dormant volcanoes in the Cascades--Hood, St. Helens, and Rainier; Oregon's Willamette Pass--clinging precariously to the cliffs in places, the verdant Willamette Valley, and the ride along the Puget Sound. Sit back and enjoy the ride!!!
Click here to go to "My Own Private Seattle" Web site, which tells about things I like to see and do and places to go while in Seattle, Washington, the starting (or ending) point for the Coast Starlight. There is also a section on "Railfanning in Seattle" about watching trains in and around Seattle. Clcik here to learn more about the symbol, how it was created and what the various images symbolize about the Coast Starlight and its route.
Click here to go to Steve's Photos Web site--where you can view more than 1,000 photos of trains, cities, places, and other subjects for downloading and for any other personal use.All photos in this site are by Steve Relei, and people may use them any way they wish without getting permission from me. Enjoy them!
